Celebrating Tradition: Vecchia Cantina di Montepulciano in Oklahoma and Louisiana

Our longtime member, Vecchia Cantina di Montepulciano, historic producer of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano in Tuscany will be presentiing their wines in Oklahoma and Louisiana in January. The IACC Texas has organized a series of one-on-one meetings with regional importers and distributors to showcase their wines.

Vecchia Cantina — the “old cellar” — was founded in the late 1930s by a group of likeminded growers and winemakers outside the picturesque town of Montepulciano.

Over the decades, the winery has become renowned for its production of classic Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, a wine vinified with Sangiovese grapes, a variety known locally as Prugnolo Gentile.

This iconic winery represents one of the greatest winemaking traditions in Italy, with roots that stretch back for centuries. Its award-winning wines are widely considered to be among the best to come from this storied appellation.

Welcome, Vecchia Cantina, we couldn’t be more pleased to count you among our community and family of Italian businesses working in the U.S.!

Please have a look at this video by the winery.

As Roberto Bava, President of the Consorzio del Vermouth di Torino, puts it, “We are thrilled to introduce a touch of our aperitivo heritage to Texas, emphasizing the significance of understanding the meticulous process of crafting Vermouth di Torino, step by step, along with the other products part of the project.”

And who better to guide us through this sensory journey than Valentino Longo, an award-winning bartender whose passion for mixology knows no bounds. “The aperitivo culture has been flourishing in recent years, especially in states like Texas, where some of the best bars and bartenders are,” says Longo. “I believe grasping the intricacies behind it is fundamental to the evolution of our bar industry.”

A Taste of Italy Success Story: GB Export clients launch with Texas importers.

The IACC Texas gives a warm shout-out to Taste of Italy Exhibitor GB Export, a Piedmont-based export and marketing group for their recent placements at Taste of Italy Houston, Dallas, El Paso — the largest trade fair devoted exclusively to Italian food and wine in the U.S.

Founder Gabriella Binello and her staff, like Tommaso Portieri (pictured above, right), have been attending Taste of Italy for many years now and her clients have made multiple placements of their wines in the Lone Star State.

Recent new exports include wines by wineries Prediomagno, Paradiis, Donna Viola, Cerulli, and Le Ginestre. Each are now launching or have already launched their brands with Texas-based importers.

GB Export also attended the first ever Taste of Italy El Paso last year and plans to be there again for this year’s event — the second of its kind in the western Texas city.

Texas continues to be home to one of the fastest-growing restaurant communities in the U.S. And each of its major cities are among the fastest growing in the U.S.

For more than a decade, Taste of Italy — in Houston, Dallas, and more recently in El Paso — has been a leader in connecting Italian food and wine companies with importers and distributors in the state.
